The Brief / The Initial Idea
Working within the 80 x 80 centimeter constraint, I set out to design a sculptural yet functional bench. Initially conceived as an artist's bench, it later evolved into a bench with a resting table.
The Pivot
The 80 x 80 constraint felt too limiting for the proportions I envisioned for the bench, so I pivoted to designing a stool while maintaining the same design language.
Technical Drawing
After settling on this concept, I drafted a full scale scale technical drawing, detailing the number of dominos and their spacing required for internal stability.
From Tree To III
Crafted from solid ash wood, the process involved planing, bandsawing, biscuit joining, gluing, and finishing. After completing the main piece, I used the extra materials to create a smaller piece that complements the taller form.
